Cloudlands

The Altocumulus clouds are so sweet in this photo, it is almost as fluffy as amusement park cotton candy floss. The old house and betony flowers are almost the “sidekicks” in the photo.

The clouds remind me of one of my favorite housing compounds in my hometown. It sits on a peak, so high, the playground where the children play, has a panoramic view of the city below. It is as if the children are playing in the clouds.

With an elevation of 268m, some call Aurora, the Aurora Highlands. My mother used to say, driving South going down Bayview from Aurora, on a clear day, one can just barely see CN Tower from faraway at an almost eye level distance.

The elevation would help this petite old house appear to be in the “Cloudlands”. This house once belonged to widow, Jane Carscadden. Damaged by fire back in 2008, it has been relocated to its current location from Bathurst Street.

The style is quintessential classic Ontario, featuring a central gable with gothic windows and gothic bargeboard ornaments. The betony flowers in front compliments both the house and indeed the street, which is also named after the flower itself.
