James Logie & Daniel Slade House (1875)

These two bay-n-gable style townhouses are also known as James Logie and Daniel Slade House.

The bay-n-gable style is kind of unique to Toronto. In a way, it is like the Canadian version of the New York “Brownstones”.

During the late 1800’s, Toronto was experiencing a population boom. Builders wanted something that was relatively quick and easy to build.

Teddy looking out the window, spying on the neighbours perhaps.

The style is literally a house with a bay and a gable. The Bear house is a “half” bay-n-gable townhouse where the bay window is only on the ground floor.

Made from pierced bargeboards, the intricate gingerbread gable trim gives the classic Cabbagetown bay-n-gable style townhome a zest of Gothic Revival style.

What is your favorite element of the house? The bay? The gable? Or bear?
