Blue Monday Dentist
Work was so stressful today. The new workplace is so under-staffed, after work I decided to grab my DSLR and went for a drive and walk.
If the Georgian style is about being traditional, reserved and dignified like a Bentley or Rolls Royce, the Italianate style is about flair and style, like an Alfa Romeo or a Maserati.
Horton Place was first used as a dental practice, and what a place to get your teeth done back in 1875.
From the ornamental brackets on the roof, arched shutters, the intricate iron railings in front and on the balcony, this house is probably the finest example of an Italianate design in Aurora, if not in the whole GTA (Greater Toronto Area).

Even the verandah on the side, a rather insignificant part, an area not facing the main street, is colored to match the tone of the house. The light beige bricks are a good match to the teal shutters.
Although Horton Place is not a dentistry anymore, it is nice to see it in such good shape, after 150 years.
Unfortunately, the house beside it, 15356 Yonge Street, does not share the same fate, which is about to be torn down for new townhouse development.
