Owning Toronto

In the latest Netflix hit series “Owning Manhattan”, not only does the show provide a unique glimpse into the NYC property market, it also features the opposite spectrum of architectures.

The extravagant pencil skyscrapers by developer Extell can be “love it or hate it.

On the other end, the older classic New York architectures, the brownstone mansions in Manhattan / Brooklyn, the pre-war lofts in Tribeca, and French Château inspired Plaza Hotel converted to an apartment are so elegant.

What if Netflix decides to film “Owning Toronto”?

The area around Front Street West has been undergoing development, with Tridel’s latest development “The Well”, and their Extell-priced penthouses above it.

In a stark contrast, right behind “The Well” on Draper Street, there are these Second Empire rowhouses. They are still standing strong with their restored black mansard roof, dormer windows and iron cresting above the bay windows.

In 1800’s Victorian era Toronto, these houses would be a minute walk from Lake Ontario, when Front Street literally meant waterfront.

Maybe Netflix can feature the lofts at Monarch Building and the main characters can dine at that cute French restaurant next to it.

Toronto may not have those classic NYC brownstones, but it is charming in its own way. Netflix, please come to Toronto.
