“The Hollow” / Boultbee Estate Stables (1912-2021)

Always wanted to post this special house, but my eyes get teary whenever I try to write about this house. Unfortunately, this house was demolished during the Covid-19 pandemic despite a pending heritage designation. I have prepared a little tribute below.

Dear Boultbee Stables,

Though you and my camera never crossed path,
Since 1912, you made the Boultbee family laugh.

You came at a time when mansions were built in pair,
The coach house lived groomsmen and servants that cared.

“The Hollow” was Boultbee’s family estate,
You provided warmth where their horses ate.

Designed by Samuel Hamilton Townsend,
A great example of Tudor Revival trend.

Though you had many friends in Annex and Rosedale,
You were one of few private coaches left north of Dale.

From the non-stop urge to develop,
Bulldozers and workers soon envelop.

Century of memories reduced to rubbles in minutes,
Replaced with box of a design over pints of Guinness.

Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
My followers, please respect the new owner.

If one day time travel is possible,
Those menacing bulldozers stoppable.

Though you may now be gone,
Your elegance and grace linger on.
